PARKING

Pay kiosks on street, Free park in lot M-F after 6pm, Sa-Su 10-10

If you are new/visiting Chicago, you may soon discover that parking/driving here is…challenging. That being said, it is manageable with a little knowledge.
Below are a few useful tips, some that apply specifically to parking near Chicago Diner, others that apply to Chicago in general:

PARKING TIPS

Pay close attention to all signs.
There are no parking meters; pay at the ‘parking kiosks’ (which take credit/debit cards as well as coins).
You can park on the side streets for free, except where it says ‘No Parking 6pm-6am except permit zone 383, LV-2 Cubs Night Games’

What that means is, don’t park on the side streets in Lakeview/Wrigleyville after 6pm unless you have a guest 383 pass (from a resident). Otherwise, before 6pm you can park on residential side streets free, except on days when there is street cleaning. Again, pay attention to any and all signs.

Do not park in front of fire hydrants, sidewalk ramps, yellow curbs and driveways.

Do not park in front of one business and go to another neighboring business. For example, 7-11 next door to The Chicago Diner contracts with a parking lot enforcement company. They will boot your car if you leave that parking lot and go to Chicago Diner even for 5 minutes.

There is a clearly designated parking lot for Chicago Diner which is available WEEKDAYS AFTER 6pm and WEEKENDS from 10am-10:30pm. The lot is private property; parking is allowed with the understanding that Chicago Diner nor Gerber Auto accept no liability for any damage or harm to person or property that may result.

DO NOT LEAVE ANY BAGS, VALUABLES, BACKPACKS, SUITCASES, CAMERAS, OR PURSES VISIBLE IN YOUR CAR FROM THE OUTSIDE.

This goes for anywhere in Chicago. Someone will smash your window and take your stuff. Even in broad daylight. Even in nice neighborhoods, like Lakeview. Even if it is a gym bag with ratty sneakers & a water bottle in it.

Hello - My friend is bring me to Chicago diner for my bday and I see that you dont take reservations. Is there a best time to come for Sat dinner?
    Thanks!
    ~Lisa

  2. admin Says:

For small parties of 2, during the peak on Saturday evening 7-9pm, you can expect to wait only a short time (~15 min). If you come earlier or later, you may not encounter a wait at all, or it would probably be less.

Make sure to mention your birthday to your server, we offer a complimentary dessert with your meal purchase on your birthday.

To reduce wait times for larger parties (6 or more):
    1. Arrive together or on time.
    2. Be willing to split into groups of 4 or less.

We look forward to serving you!

  3. Sarah Says:

  5. Lynne Says:

My family and I visited Chicago last week for the first time. We ate at Chicago Diner Sunday, Tuesday and Saturday.

    Nuff said!

    Hi guys,

Coming down from from Milwaukee and after a couple of stops that conclude with a Skydeck tour, we want to come to the C.D. for a early Friday dinner. Would you be so kind as to supply driving directions from the Sears Tower to your place?

    Much appreciated!

We are coming next Fridat evening. the info says: Free parking, evenings & weekends. SEE SIGNAGE.
Is there a lot or is this all street parking? re there residential restrictions on street parking?

  8. admin Says:

    Hi Cyndi
Thanks for your interest in our vegetarian/vegan dining. There is an area adjacent and immediately north of the building which looks like an alley. There are signs posted by it showing the parking hours for our customers: after 6pm weekdays, 10am-10pm on weekends. Do not confuse this with the 7-11 Parking lot which is to our south.

Prior to 6pm weekdays, and if the lot is full there is street parking (pay at kiosks); the side streets require permit after 6pm.
We look forward to serving you!

    -Del

  9. Victoria Says:

My husband and I will be visiting from Sturgeon Bay, WI on Wednesday, 23 Dec 2009. We would like to meet a Chicago friend at your restaurant at about 4 PM on that day. Is there a pay lot nearby, if the street parking is full? Thank you.

  10. admin Says:

Hi Thanks for you interest in our award winning vegetarian/vegan dining. On weekdays prior to 6pm there is no parking lot available. There is street parking on Halsted available with pay kiosks. At that time of day on a Wednesday, you should not have much difficulty parking within a few blocks of the restaurant. We look forward to serving you.

  11. Ef Says:

I’m so excited to try your restaurant! I come from a city that has NO vegetarian options.

What would be the closest L stop? Or would it be better to take the bus?

  12. admin Says:

    Hi Elizabeth,
We are excited for your visit too! I’m sorry about the state of veggie dining in your city, something needs to be done about that. The closest L would be Belmont stop on either the Red, Brown or Purple lines. You may also take the following buses which all will get you to within 3 blocks:

    #22 Clark Bus to Roscoe
    #8 Halsted to Roscoe
#151 Sheridan to Belmont & Halsted
    #77 Belmont to Halsted
    #36 Broadway to Roscoe
    #152 Addison to Halsted
