I’ve been vegan my whole life because I’m allergic to dairy. I know that if I weren’t destined to this dietary classification due to that reason, I’d still be supportive of this lifestyle because everyone in my family was raised (me being the only lactose intollerant sibling) with wholistic ideals and a great awareness of natural health. Now, I’ve never thought much about a wedding. and certainly not enough to get to the point where I might have to choose a dessert that’s fitting for me on my special occasion… until I was inspired by an article about Ellen Degeneres and her wife Portia’s vegan wedding menu! When I read about their amazing vegan wedding cake, I was soooo inspired. I began to dream -ha! I wondered where or how unobtainable it would be to find such a treasure as a vegan wedding cake since it’s fitting for me personally. Otherwise I’d have to have a real wedding cake and either just not eat any, or boycott my dietary habits for the occasion to indulge with everyone else…You can’t not offer dessert and most some people probably attend weddings just for the cake to be the highlight of their evening! I thought I’d have to eat regular cake and be gasy and bloated for my honeymoon. O dear! Well… my answer has arrived! I’m so thankful for the Chicago Diner and I love going there. I feel special and enjoy myself every time, and my beloved boyfriend agrees!

Wanted to send a halla to Cricket as I am also vegan because of dairy allergies. But I will eat fish occasionally. Does that make me pesca-vegan? I LOVE Chicago Diner, and for those of us with allergies, it is vital. Yay for The CD!

I was married in 2007 and had a cake made to order from the Chicago Diner. It was delicious. It was two tiers, one tier a lemon cake with vanilla frosting and the other a black forest cake with vanilla frosting. I was the only vegan there, but all of my guests went on and on about how surprised they were at how good the cake was. For most it wasn’t just a good cake, but one of the best they’d ever had! I highly recommend a CD wedding cake for anyone who’s considering it. Don’t compromise your values and lifestyle on one of the most important days of your life! You can have your cake and eat it too!!!!

I was married in Aug. of 2007. Thanks to the CD for making my cake to be sent down to Whole Foods in STL where I currently reside. What a great cake, all loved it, and I will definitely recommend and order again!
Thanks,

FYI to all vegan food lovers AND non-vegan food lovers, I very recently have some food sensitivities, so I’m getting a vegan cake for my wedding…and we just did a taste test here (w/ Kristin who is SOOO nice by the way), and we were both blown away by how good this cake is! My fiance is a meat-loving regular-food lover, and seriously this cake is just plain GOOD. Like really rich and fresh and moist and tasty good! I’m even reconsidering my original plan (a small vegan cake for us, and regular cupcakes for everyone else)…I think EVERYONE would LOVE this cake! We tried: carrot, banana, lemon w/ rasperry, lemon w/ strawberry, lemon w/ blueberry, and cookies and creme (i think that was the last one, swirl of chocolate and white). All of them were incredible, but our favorites were the carrot, banana and lemon w/ raspberry (which is surprisingly fresh and sweet for a non-lemon-lover like me). We ended up going w/ the banana and carrot. Seriously, this cake is the best–I can’t say enough about this place and their bakery.

Hello all!
He changed his mind, that’s for sure!
I’m an out-of-towner, so it was a big thrill to find out Chicago Diner would be providing the wedding/committment cake at the committment ceremony I had the pleasure to attend, everytime I’m in Chicago…it’s a staple, one of the 1st to do’s when I get here!
I am Vegan and was delighted to enjoy a delicious wedding cake AND special dessert buffet ALL made by Chicago Diner. One of the grooms is Vegan, and several of of the guests were vegetarian/vegan as well, but not all. I was thrilled to hear how much everyone enjoyed the cake and desserts, many of the compliments coming from non-vegans/vegetarians. It was fabulous to hear many of them say the cake and treats were possibly the best they’ve had! A brilliant dessert that deserves all the recognition possible. And also … an opportunity to “prove” to my non-vegetarians that our diet is not what they perceive, it’s not just a block of tofu and rice (unfortunately, something I’ve been asked SEVERAL times, if that is what my diet consists of…ugh) as proof by the cake and desserts, it’s obviously rich and delicious! A great ‘gotcha’ to my friend who enjoyed the desserts with me and in the past has sworn my diet is as tasteful and interesting as cardboard!
Lastly, while being mindful to not go overboard and use this ceramony as a chance to fully speak out about Veganism, I did mention, appropriately so, that the Chicago Diner has an excellent menu, and many regulars of the restaurant are not strict vegans and vegetarians. In fact, many enjoy the Chicago Diner because the food is simply great. Can’t get better advertising than word of mouth, and by serving the best wedding cake in the city!
Thank you…I look forward to using your services in the future! And cheers to all your well deserved success, much MUCH gratitude!

You guys are so lucky!! I used to live on Buckingham just a couple of blocks from the Diner. It was always my favorite restaurant when I was a vegetarian. I’m vegan now and have been for several years, but alas, I no longer live in Chicago. Now that I’ve seen the hugely expanded menu at the Diner, though, I’m wondering if I can get dinner FedExed. Whadaya say, Mr. M?
