CHICAGO PARKING TIPS

If you are new/visiting Chicago, you may soon discover that parking here is CHALLENGING. That being said, it is manageable with a little knowledge.

Below are a few useful tips, some that apply specifically to parking near Chicago Diner, others that apply to Chicago in general:

  • Pay close attention to all signs on the entire block you are parking on.
  • There are no longer parking meters in Chicago; pay at the ‘parking kiosks’ (which take credit/debit cards as well as coins).
  • You can park on the side streets near Chicago Diner for free 6am-6pm where it says ‘No Parking 6pm-6am except permit zone 383’.

Don’t park on the side streets in Lakeview/Wrigleyville (side street areas near Chicago Diner with the zone 383 signage) after 6pm unless you have a guest 383 pass (eg. from a resident), AND don’t park on side streets marked LV-2 zone (often times same as Zone 383) from 6pm-11pm if it a Cubs Night Game (unless you have a guest pass).

Weekdays after 6pm is conveniently when our free parking lot is available, see above.

Basically, before 6pm you can park on residential side streets near Chicago Diner for free regardless of Cubs day/night games, except on days when there is street cleaning (there will be temporary signs posted on trees and poles). Again, pay attention to all signs.

Do not park in front of fire hydrants, sidewalk ramps, yellow curbs and driveways.

Do not park in front of one business and go to another neighboring business. For example, 7-11 next door to The Chicago Diner contracts with a parking lot enforcement company. They will boot your car if you leave that parking lot and go elsewhere even for 5 minutes.

DO NOT LEAVE ANY BAGS, VALUABLES, BACKPACKS, SUITCASES, CAMERAS, BOXES OR PURSES VISIBLE IN YOUR CAR FROM THE OUTSIDE. This applies to Chicago in general, day or night, all neighborhoods.
